About the Major Valô Square
Located in the historical center of the city of Rio de Janeiro, more precisely on Morro da Conceição hill. In the middle of the square it possible to observe an image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (‘Our Lady of the Conception’) and in the the Fortaleza da Conceição (Fortress of the Conception).
History of the Square
Praça Major Valô square or Praça da Conceição square is not what we consider as an iconic "square". It has no benches or a gazebo, neither a little playground for the children to play in. However, it is one of the most beautiful hidden squares in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The alley Ladeira João Homem is the main access to the Morro da Conceição. The square is located in the central plateau of Morro da Conceição and is surrounded by houses built between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, there is little trees and greenery.
