Where have all the people gone?

Why are there no people in the 'after' images, after all, the space was improved to benefit the people.

Very often we see comments by people reacting furiously, stating that the improvement of the public space are not worth it if nobody uses the space, as the image shows no people. They may state that a lot of money was invested for a useless project. However, the fact that people don't appear on the actual photo does not mean that the space is not being used. Lets explore here a few explanations:

1. Google streetview take photos: early morning or times when there is not so much traffic. For more effectiveness in time on road / avoid traffic jams. Also so that they have less people to censor or more objects on street.

1b. Different times on google more or less people. Show example.

2. most public spaces are not always full, during daylight. During some hours or during events, the extensive use of the place unfolds, justifying the transformation.

3. Cars parked in a space can make it appear like its being used and lively, when in fact they are a bunch of empty cars with no people in them. In any given moment, only people which happen to be passing through the angle of the photo ate captured. Whereas cars parked for hours trick our minds.

Why were the trees removed?

Why did they take down the trees? By far the most common reaction when seeing a before image with trees or a bit of grass that diappear in the after photo. Lets explore a few explanations.

1. Unfortunately yes but new planted trees.

2. Difference between natural parks and organizes public spaces

3. Underground parking

4. Underground infrastructure

5. give more use to the space other than just visually green

Where will the cars park now?

Where will the cars park now that they have been taken away?

1. Often parking has been replaced other locations

2. It is a new way of thinking, correcting mistakes from the past

3. More space for cars leads to more cars, less less
